Stay Awake
Is it possible to make our difficult times into an awakening - times of waking up to life?
Allowing them to be an opening, a new door for us to move through into the mysterious-something-bigger of our existence. I get it. It’s hard to look past the strain of uncertainty that exists in adversity, but when we let it, difficulty can be a unique bearer of opportunity for us. If we let them, our struggles can provide a trigger that helps us see the world differently. They can be the encouragement we need to expand beyond old limiting boundaries, reseting ourselves back into life so we might simply thrive more in our world.
Just look around, because there’s a lot of healing going on right now; movement and deep evolution for everyone. We’re redefining our community, opening ourselves to see people differently, working on our outward as well as inner selves. We’re learning to be kind and courageous, to live remembering compassion, figuring out again how to wish others happiness and wellbeing. We’re simply loving better, and caring for ourselves and one another more deeply.
Could we be doing more? Of course, but we’re making a dent in our lives right now, and it can be a good dent - a dent that lets us know we’re trying to hammer out something even bigger for our world. And we have a long way to go and a lot of hammering to do, but at least we’ve begun.
This leads me to a previous Facebook post I wanted to share…
By now it should be apparent, even to those who felt quite safe and cozy in their lives, contented by their belongings and their things, that life can be unpredictably unsure, a delicate balance between tranquility and chaos.
And when this world so shakes your reality that you can no longer think along the same lines you used to. When the chaos becomes so irrational and so insane that you know that the way you used to live, now can only be seen as a journey of being asleep, a blind life, deaf of true existence. When you see the truth of what has been created in the name of fear, it’s not long before you realize that fear actually doesn’t work well for this life, and the only thing that really makes sense is for us to step back and finally start taking care of one another. Because when you’re struck in the heart by a misguided world, suddenly you realize that it’s up to you to do something, to begin again, to remember who you are, and to be the love you were put here to be. And it’s up to you to step beyond any temptation to go back to sleep, because it’s in our waking up that we find our meaning.
“If we can stay awake when our lives are changing, secrets will be revealed to us - secrets about ourselves, about the nature of life, and about the eternal source of happiness and peace that is always available, always renewable, already within us.”
-Elizabeth Lesser
